Spokane loves itself some Hoopfest, with all its basketball-3-on-3-ness. In honor of the upcoming tournament, and seeing a lot of new spots have popped up, here are nine places either recently opened or openeing soon, divided into three categories. (9/3 = 3. 3-on-3. Get it? No, that's not a stretch!)
Washington voted and Washington said, Let's make liquor more expensive! And good for Washington.
Some of you might prefer cheaper prices, though, and those thriftier among us now have a small window where they can get some cheap booze.
Run up to Wandermere Liquor -- they're one of the few old liquor stores still open -- and from 11am today, you will find prices slashed by 25%. That's twenty five percent off the old state prices.
The liquor store is set to close, and this is a limited time offer. So why are you still reading this? Run up to 12408 N Division right now and stock up on liquor.
We've been having a love affair with Silver City Brewery. Sadly this is a long distance relationship as you can't find their wares on this side of the mountains. Should you make your way west, though, we strongly recommend picking up some of their beer, as it all is pretty damn excellent.
Like the Saint Florian IPA. This hazy, golden wonder is one of the more refreshing IPAs we've had in a while. Its nose literally screams -- literally! -- of citric hops, yet with a whisper of maltiness toward the back. Yes, it's a loud beer, but that's good.
Sip it, and the tongue is gently caressed by a taste of citric sunshine, with the hops revealing themselves at the end. First gently, before they hang on to the uvula, refusing to let go. Indeed these hops come on slowly, but when they appear, they really appear. The malts are there too, mind you, almost cherry like in flavor. The combination is interesting, and, again, the result tastes like summer.
Mouthfeel is heavier than many IPAs, and the Saint Florian really is quite a mouthful. This might a bit off-putting to those who like the thinner IPAs, but I quite liked it. At 6.9% it's not exactly a session beer, but you can at least put one back without hitting the ground.
Heavens, though, anything we've tried from Silver City has been good, but Saint Florian is a great option if you like something that screams summer.
We've updated our "Places currently in our rotation" page with the three new Cs: Casper Fry, Clover, and Coeur Coffee. You might -- might -- just be clinically insane if you have no plans on checking them out.
Speaking of rotation, we also added our local coffee roasters of choice, DOMA and Anvil.
Emphasis on rotation for both categories, of course. Places come and go, but those are our current choices.
For something completely different, McClain's Pizzeria is set to open up north, in what possibly could have been the old Rogue Coffee location but which turned out to be an open spot (thanks to Lucas for letting us know!) on 10208 N Division.
And finally, David Blaine has posted a small blurb on Facebook about his new restaurant, Central Food. Keywords include "75 seats", "patio" (the view from the location really is spectacular), "a cook's restaurant", and "highest possible quality". Sounds promising. The address is 1335 W Summit Pkwy, in Kendall Yards.
